Bradford Mott is a Senior Research Scientist in the Center for Educational Informatics at North Carolina State University (NCSU) and an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at NCSU. His research is in the areas of artificial intelligence and human-computer interaction with a focus on game-based learning, AI in education, natural language processing, user modeling, and interactive narrative. His work includes the design, development, and investigation of advanced technologies for education, training, and entertainment. He serves as Principal Investigator and Co-Principal Investigator on projects supported by the National Science Foundation, the Institute of Education Sciences, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and the U.S. Army Research Laboratory. He has also served as Co-Principal Investigator on projects supported by the the William & Flora Hewlett Foundation and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. His work has been recognized with several best paper awards and he has contributed to award winning video games, including one that received a game of the year award. He has many years of software development experience, including extensive experience in the video game and enterprise software industries. Prior to joining NCSU, he served as Technical Director at Emergent Game Technologies where he created cross-platform middleware solutions for Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony video game consoles. In 2000, he co-founded and was VP of Technology at LiveWire Logic, an AI-based enterprise software company that created automated online assistants for customer service. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science with an emphasis on Artificial Intelligence from North Carolina State University in 2006.
